What is good health?

Everyone will have a different take on what it takes to have good health. Some exercise, some eat right (whatever definition you use for that), some follow a dietitian's plan and others follow a new fad diet, most just don't have time to deal with any of that. Society has made fast food it's national symbol. The faster the better, the more flavor the better and if I crave it, it must be good and I must get more of it whenever I can. Advertising has taken on new meaning as companies push their product enhanced with the latest and greatest technology has to offer. The FDA has helped these companies enhance their products without the public being any the wiser about what is actually making the food taste this way. It is legal to add the word spices to a product and we all think salt, pepper, oregano, basil or garlic. Spices actually means any combination of chemical compounds to make the product taste like it does. Apple pie tastes even more like apple pie if can be flavor enhanced with chemicals.

What happens if your system can't handle certain foods after a period time? Your body tries to accommodate these new taste sensations along with all the chemicals in our cleaning products, furniture, paint, carpet, etc. Many times people have little annoyances like a patch of itchy skin, headaches a little more often than they'd like, indigestion after eating, a little constipation, canker sores, yeast infections, etc, etc. The list will go on and some things overlap and some require a doctor visit because they turn into more than annoyances sometimes and you are looking at an ulcers, reflux disorders, Crohn's, Colitis, thyroid disease, eczema, cancers, again etc., etc. Our bodies are incredible but they do break down and tell you when they can't do it anymore.

In our family, our son's body did say it had enough and it was basically starving him to death. It became overloaded with possibly Candida overgrowth due to his gut getting out of balance. It left him open to parasites, fungi, bacteria and a complete overload of toxins due to all these things living inside of him. His small intestine quit absorbing nutrients, his stomach stopped producing the necessary enzymes to digest and his body started using up his stores of fat and muscle. It has taken many different plans and doctors and 8 months of searching for answers. We believe we are at the end of the road and have found the right balance. He is improving and we have learned a lot about the foods we eat. Now, for the journey to wellness. I plan to share what has worked for us in this quest for health. I also plan to share of our plans to create a more sustainable living on our little 6 acres of God's green earth.
